Please forgive my question, but what is Operation Lifesaver, and why will they have a Safety Officer on a train?
In reply to Jason Heilpern:
Operation Lifesaver is a National non-profit organization which promotes rail safety through education, engineering and enforcement. The majority of class one railroads along with others either works with them or provides some support along with state highway departments and other government agencies including the FRA. All 50 states now have presenters, which give safety presentations to the general public, children K3-K12, transit and professional drivers, along with other courses for first responders.
The Colorado train will be called either a Safety train or an Officer on the train (the slash between Safety and Officer).
There may be safety officers on board from different agencies or businesses such as trucking firms, transit or school buses along with members from state DOT or other businesses that use rail or have their employee work near or cross the local or area railroad lines.
