Information technology (IT) is embedded in the soul of today's railroads. IT comprises telecommunications technology. That thing called The Internet. Hardware/software development. Systems integration. Whatever "next" might be, applied technology wise. Ultimately, it's about improving operations and safety, driving asset efficiency and providing better rail service. I recently caught a glimpse of said "soul" during a visit with Union Pacific Railroad's IT department leaders, including Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Lynden Tennison. UP IT team members discussed their key projects, R&D initiatives and the role they play in helping to connect the strategic dots, and improve the bottom line, at the railroad. It's a sharp, connected, energetic and engaged group. We'll continue to track the evolutionary path they're on.
