This year's iteration of RailTrends®, held Nov. 21-22 in New York City, may have been our best yet. From the slate of provocative presenters (Hunter Harrison, Wick Moorman, Cindy Sanborn, etc.) to the particularly engaged audience (given the questions asked and the conversations generated in between sessions), we were reminded once again how vital the rail transportation segment is — in North America, Australia and beyond. As Tony Hatch, our friend and RailTrends program consultant, noted in his comprehensive summary of RT 2013: "The railway industry is anything but staid, boring, change or technology averse. Innovations in operations, power, rolling stock, marketing, and industrial and market development were the story of the day (and a half). Growth in share, efficiency and opportunity is the story for tomorrow." Read the rest of Mr. Hatch's observations and insights.
