Toby Kolstad on tank-car standards and what's at stake

The what-to-do-about-tank-car-design discussions continue in public and private — mostly the latter, at least from where we sit. One rail-industry observer weighing in publicly is rail-car market consultant/forecaster Toby Kolstad, who offers his take in commentary published in our February issue. Kolstad, who's been in the industry for more than 40 years, revisits a bit of haz-mat transport history, wonders if railroads and tank-car owners can agree on a solution that's acceptable to both groups and shares what he characterizes as the "one common denominator to all the tank-car derailment tragedies of late." Read his piece — "There's a lot at stake in the tank-car design discussions" — here.
