The Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS) broke its summer meeting attendance record set last year when more than 500 rail industry constituents descended on the Grand Geneva Resort July 10 and 11 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The summer meeting has grown in popularity since the region covered by MARS centers around Chicago. As part of its mission, the association strives to develop education programs to inform members about rail operating practices, new transportation innovations and legislative matters — all of which revolve in and around the Windy City. This year’s meeting reflected those educational pursuits. I attended the full day of presentations on July 11 and listened to the two keynoters: Canadian Pacific President and CEO Keith Creel, and Norfolk Southern Railway VP of Industrial Products Mike McClellan. Other speakers that day hailed from the American Trucking Associations, GATX Corp., Nissan, Perdue Farms and other rail shippers.I provide the highlights of what was shared in the resort’s crowded conference center in this article I posted to our site. Feel free to comment on the speakers’ comments.
