Fleet Stats 2017 sheds light on Class Is' rolling stock

How many locomotives do the Class Is plan to purchase or lease this year? How many rail cars? And are they doing something interesting or new with their rolling stock fleets?

For answers, read this article I contributed to our Fleet Stats 2017 coverage in the August issue. Suffice it so say the Class Is won’t be acquiring much by way of rolling stock this year.

To access the rest of Fleet Stats — our annual collection of North American rail-car and locomotive facts and figures — use the links listed at the end of the article. The section includes charts on railroad and private car owners’ fleets, freight cars used in North America by type and age, and Class I locomotive data.

Please share any thoughts on or experiences with rolling stock in North America in the comment section.
