My folks retired from Chicago area to Nowhereville, VA several years ago. Believe it was Atlas 53' Intermodal box was dropped off and loaded. Moved via CSX to VA where it was picked up and delivered. Very little damage to the contents as well. Haven't seen anything on west coast trains though.

As so railroads are suppose to build intermodal facilities everywhere so that trucker that hit's his HOS he has a place to get loaded?? One of the more ridiculous suggestions I've seen. Like the concept, but not realistic at all.

I think Walt's post nailed it. SAFETY issue. Whether it is or not, the Class I's wouldn't take a chance.

Railroads settle not because they are wrong but to save money. Let the actuaries figure out how much a 32 year old drunk guy is worth and write the check. Railroads are trying to combat this of course with cameras on lead locomotive. Not sure if all are doing it but some are and track the performance of available cameras and ensuring they are on the

In regards to the PTC Larry, maybe these gentleman will be more proud of the R.R.'s when they all get together and sue the US Gov't over PTC. Government forcing a business to implement a technology out of their own pockets at $600M with a ROI of $60M. Who else gets that?

Someone please provide me a case currently in court system in which a named railroad employee is the defendant and the family is the plaintiff suing only the engineer in court. Always mgt fault, I love it. I've heard some great stories in my time about crews in the caboose drinking on the job. All the Rule G issues in the 70's, drugs, etc. My

Switchman- Remote Crews comments - nothing is absolute. "every" place had to put on a 2nd job, used 4 instead of 3. I've work in numerous terminals and never have I seen a 2nd job put on to cover or make up ground for the 1st RC job. The truth usually falls in between. It doesn't add up in my head though that 2nd job would be permanent

The Class I's make a fair profit on Amtrak from incentives for on time performance - I could only imagine the commuter operations in large cities provide something to the bottom line as well. At least on the western lines, not sure what eastern carriers hang up is.
